We had some really nice reviews on RollOut which has been released a few days ago on the App Store. Let’s share some comments we got on the project.
You can find a 4.5/5 score on avosmanettes.com, a french game related website. “Roll Out est une expérience de qualité à la difficulté savamment dosée et parfaitement pensée pour des parties rapides qui font travailler réflexes et méninges.”
Finally, iFanzine, gave us 3.5 out of 5 and quoted very positevely the game like this: “There’s no escaping the fact that a fair few games in the App Store can be summed up with statements such as “It’s like Mario Kart for iPhone!” or “Yeah it’s HALO but they called it N.O.V.A. to avoid a lawsuit” or – and I’m sure every reviewer has used this one once or twice – “Okay, okay, it might be the seventieth Doodle Jump-esque title this month but it’s actually still quite fun.” All well and good, but it wasn’t watered down clones of console hits or endless variations on popular genres that piqued my interest in iDevice as a gaming platform. It was those innovative little games that are unafraid to try something different. Games that manage to push boundaries while still playing to the hardware’s unique strengths. Games like Roll Out.”
We have finally received our American Traffic Light !
This beauty will be used on our Build server so that when one of our guys screws up and breaks the code, the traffic light will turn bright RED. Once they have fixed their mistake, after a good beat up, the light will come back to BLUE.
It’s not only a great game with distinctive controls, it’s also being sold for 0.79€ only for a very limited time so make sure you grab your copy as soon as possible!
We are glad to annouce we have been selected amongst over 400 candidates to defend our activities at the 19th EBN annual congress in Burgos, Spain.
Laurent will unleash the power of the Cactus against 3 other finalists of the Category ‘Digital Models’, we count on your support to give us the strengh and energy we need to win the contest!
OK we haven’t spoken of in-house projects for quite a long time but we have been working on almost 6 projects at the same time. Today we are going to present you one of them: RollOut which is a unique platform game planned to be released first on the iPhone and will come on iPad later on (depend on you guys).
In RollOut you play as Wabba, a cute little creature and you have to help it get through levels in a uniquely nervous platform game that we exclusively designed with Artik Entertainment team for the iPhone platform in mind.
RollOut has a simple but yet challenging goal: touch the screen to scroll the icons and order Wabba when to speed up or speed down, when to jump and when to stop… Wabba truly depends on your scrolling skills to reach the end of each level!
Here is a teaser artwork for you to feed on while you wait for the official press release.
Fishing Cactus is proud to announce that we are now an official BizSpark partner. To make it short, BizSpark lets us join an innovative global program designed to unite Startups and resources to support them into a single community (only 10 companies in Belgium). Yeah but how interessting is this some might say? In fact BizSpark is designed help companies like us by offering them softwares, support and some extra visibility. Sounds good eh?
This partnership has been possible thanks to the close relationship we had for several months and still have with the Microsoft Innovation Center in Mons and some extra visibility we got directly from Microsoft with the technologies we are pushing internally. For our company this is definitely the kind of initiative we’d like to see more often and this will help us tremendously accelerating the deployment of some of our projects.
Not to say we are quite excited to get our hands dirty with Visual Studio 2010 and kick some really good things out of it.
Today Laurent Grumiaux, responsible of the Serious Gaming department here at Fishing Cactus, will be at the first Serious Gaming conference held in Belgium, Mons (Imagix).

If you are interessted to follow the conference live, please go here.
Microsoft Innovation Center in Mons and Fishing Cactus are teaming up to make a call for projects which you can find here. The idea is to provide a budget of 10,000€ to build a prototype using Natal technology. If you have ideas regarding an innovative serious game and want it to come true it is time to share them with us.
